Ongoza Kenya -- a flagship initiative of Lead Africa Foundation -- is a six-month, value based leadership development program for emerging leaders in Kenya who desire to take an active role in shaping politics and policy in the country. Facilitated by practicing and experienced leaders, the program provides practical training and exposure opportunities in critical functions of public service. Workshops incorporate topics like:
principles of democracy
Campaign fund raising
public communication, and
effective use of media.
The program is non-partisan and does not discriminate on the basis of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion. Because of the shortage of women in senior leadership positions in Kenya, women applicants are given priority considerations. The selection process is rigorous and competitive, aiming always to attract cohorts that are truly representative of the country’s demographic diversity.
Participants come from all sectors of society and include entrepreneurs, professionals, public servants, innovators and institutional managers. They are generally already accomplished in their own fields and are at the forefront of change. They are ambitious change makers who are prepared to commit their energy, knowledge and resources toward making Kenya a more positive, peaceful and progressive place to live and work.
Through the program, participants have the opportunity to receive personalized coaching and guidance in developing effective strategies for public engagement. They also have the opportunity to develop authentic relationships with like-minded peers far outside their traditional professional networks.
